About the event
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a seminal work in American drama by the legendary playwright Tennessee Williams. First staged in 1955, the play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1956. Combining Real Housewives-style melodrama and humor with the lyricism for which Tennessee Williams is rightfully revered, Cat has a lighter touch than many of Williams’ other famous plays, but it doesn’t shy away from powerful human emotions. Renowned for its vivid characters and sharp dialogue, the play explores themes such as greed, desire, repression, and death within the context of a hugely dysfunctional family in the Southern United States. As the play opens, Brick, a former football player turned alcoholic, and his wife Maggie, also known as "Maggie the Cat," square off in a heated discussion about the state of their relationship. Brick’s alcoholism, the couple's childlessness, and Brick’s ambiguous bond with his dead friend Skipper are all explored over the course of a stormy summer evening filled with boozy recriminations and painful family secrets.
